| Montessori schools are founded upon a deep respect for the child. Dr. Maria Montessori, the Italian pediatrician and founder of the Montessori philosophy, believed that children possess an intrinsic desire to explore, discover and learn about their enivornment. | |
At Country Hills Montessori, we help children Our classroom creates a carefully-planned, stimulating environment, in which children discover materials especially designed for their readiness and maturity. The materials in the classroom offers a series of sequential, manipulative and sensorial activities that bridge the gap between concrete and abstract learning. |

| Country Hills Montessori has been providing 3 – 6 year olds with an outstanding Montessori learning experience since 1977. From its inception, the original owner, Ms. Jean Johannigman, wanted to develop the child in ways traditional programs could not. So, she situated her Montessori classrooms in healthcare facilities. | |
This unique situation has become a continuing hallmark of the Country Hills Montessori schools. Country Hills East Montessori opened in 1985 in Eastgate Springs Healthcare Center. The owner of the facility, Barry Bortz, had first hand experience of the value of such a non-traditional approach in that Ms. Johannigman had educated his own children in such a setting. In Eastgate, Mr. Bortz not only provided space for the school, but gave continual support to the program and incorporated intergenerational activities into the weekly schedule. |

The daily interactions between students and residents reflect the importance Country Hills Montessori placed on community in the healthy development of the child. The interaction was so positive that a Montessori classroom would be integrated into each new facility that Mr. Bortz would open under the Carespring corporate name. Although Ms. Johannigman has since retired, the school system has grown significantly, with each of the schools currently owned by former staff members. We believe that children develop valuable personal characteristics in the Montessori classroom - among them self-confidence, initiative, sense of order, ability to concentrate, persistence, increased curiousity and pride in learning. |
