In 1977, founder Jean Johannigman's vision was to develop the child in ways traditional programs could not. So, she situated her Montessori classrooms in healthcare facilities. Country Hills East Montessori opened in 1985 in Eastgate Springs Healthcare Center, owned by Barry Bortz .

Mr. Bortz had first hand knowledge of the value of CHM since his own children attended the Montessori pre-school guided by Ms. Johannigman . In Eastgate , Mr. Bortz not only provided space for the school, but gave continual support to the program and incorporated intergenerational activities into the weekly schedule.

Citing the success of the Eastgate model, a Montessori classroom was integrated into each new facility that Mr. Bortz would open under the Carespring corporate name. Today, Country Hills Montessori has grown significantly, with each of the schools currently owned by former staff members.
